Transition
Youth Scene’s Transition Programme combines Personal Development group programmes with specialist One-to-One support to assist young people through transition.
Usually, we rely on the support of those around us to deal with life’s transitions. However, sometimes young people need extra support or face extra obstacles and this is where our Transition Programme can help.
What is transition?
Transitions are changes that move us from one life stage to another: from learning to talk; to going through adolescence and on into adulthood.
Youth Scene provides tailored group programmes that target important transitions such as moving from primary to secondary school; or making the next career step through further education, training or employment.
Transition happens constantly throughout our lives and can bring both new opportunities and new challenges. Our early transitions and how we cope with them have a great effect on the rest of our emotional development, and on our ability to cope with life’s challenges. If young people are prepared and nurtured through these transitions, they are more likely to do well and ultimately grow to be happy, productive members of society.
“Compared to earlier generations, children appear to have become less able to cope with and overcome stress and obstacles, partly because of their being sheltered from challenging opportunities. Recent [support] services have tended to emphasise factors that pose risks for children, rather than opportunities for growth and adaptation.”1
The Transition Programme supports young people before, during and after transition whilst crucially addressing their personal circumstances through one-to-one support. Trained support workers can often be the role model that young people need to fully understand what is expected of them as they develop. They are also someone to turn to who's trained in supporting young people to look at their own lives and make the personal changes they need to.

K-Artz! Personal Development Programme
Our Lambeth-based K-Artz! Personal Development Programme supports young people living in areas of high deprivation who are experiencing difficulties at home or at school. They are encouraged to plan for their future aspirations through personal goal setting whilst dealing with issues that they may currently be facing. The programme also enables young people to build new friendships with other young people from different areas and backgrounds.
Young people begin a life-changing journey with us when they enrol on our personal development programmes. These multi-faceted programmes are tailored according to the needs of each group of young people we work with. We talk to our young people to establish the final agenda for each programme.
Each programme encourages young people to work together, drawing on the strength of each other and both the small and big successes they achieve along the way. Relevant group themes help to unite the young people and act as a basis for group projects such as enterprise projects, arts projects or accredited skill development.
